Founded in 1990 by the Kautz family in Murphys, California, Ironstone Vineyards grew from vineyard plantings that began on their farm in 1968. The winery's name comes from the distinctive hard rock formation discovered during construction of their barrel-aging cavern—a geological signature that miners said resembled iron. Today they craft a diverse range of wines from Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, offered through their Reserves, Limited Releases, and other curated programs.
Ironstone Vineyards is an accessible, family-run California producer offering diverse varietals at everyday price points ($12-45, mostly $16-30), with a wide portfolio including Reserve, Limited Release, and fruit-flavored Symphony wines that suggest approachable, fruit-forward styling for broad consumer appeal.
