Kaz Winery was started in 1994 by Richard Kasmier as a hobby, initially producing about 400 cases annually from an organic vineyard in Kenwood. After building a winery in Sonoma Valley and reaching 2,000 cases, Kasmier later downsized to Lakeport in Lake County, reducing production to 300 cases while focusing on ports and new fruit sources.
